The colors in this linen like and strong soft cover book "Animal Friends Picture Book", published by Merrill Publishing Company, Chicago, 1939 are brilliant. The read-aloud 14 page picture book is referred to by Merrill as book #3445 and has no author stated. It does have absolutely charming illustrations by George Trimmer. Baby rabbits ("Bunny jumps when he sees the carrots."), playful kittens, puppies, baby goats, a turkey and other fowl, piglets and their mother, calf and baby chicks, a leggy colt, little geese, lambs, terriers and darling donkeys, ducklings, etc. The book is in very good to excellent vintage condition with no stains, tears, folds or writing. Being paper, it is difficult to find this book in as good a condition as what is here offered. It has overall light wear, a small 'bite' from the middle of all pages on the opening side and the spine edge is worn. The illustrator,Trimmer, was one of several linen graphic artists of the era noted for lively, charming, illustrations featuring cherubic children and animals (such as Ruth Newton, Milo Winter, Florence Salter, Florence Winship, Eileen Fox Vaughn, etc.).
