There aren't too many of these circa 1960 West Germany made vintage Pan American World Airways Junior Clipper Stewardess pins around and this one is in very good to excellent condition. The stamped gold tone plated brass metal pin has an amazingly detailed design for a giveaway including deeply stamped individual feathers on the outstretched center wings and additional detailed feathers encircling the inner ring. The blue accents on the ground of the globe, the base under the written STEWARDESS and in the lettering around the edge is complete and bright. The pin's gold tone finish is bright and shiny even on the tips of the wings and is without scratches or loss of finish. There is only on very small area on the lower left feather which shows light oxidation. Even the finish on the back surface and smoothly operating safety pin closure is intact and bright. The pin has no dents or bends. It measures 1 1/4" tall x 2 3/8" wide.
This pin was given out by the airlines for many years. In the 1950's & 1960's these wings were made of plated brass as is this one. In the 1970's wings were made of hard plastic while in the 1980s wings were a plastic coated paper. The 50s-60s-70s wings were attached with a pin while the 1980s wings were "stick on. Take a close look at this pin, it's nice!
