Hubert de Givenchy, born in France in 1927, worked with many of the fashion giants, including Elsa Schiaparelli. He opened his own house in 1952, creating designs that set trends decades after debuting. To wit: this marvelous '70s-'80s vintage silver tone choker style necklace with a modernist twist. Wonderful, "feel good" articulated cobra / snake chain wraps round your neck like a second skin while the rigid oversized center panel undulates in high profile waves. A clean sweep and swoosh from vintage Givenchy.
The necklace is a fixed approximate 15 1/2 inches with fold over clasp. Cobra chain measures 5/8 inch wide. Center panel spans about 5 inches x 1 3/8 inches at it's widest point with a maximum 1/2 inch profile / dome height. Weight is a substantial 134 grams.
Condition is excellent vintage. All components original and intact. Bilateral cobra chains hug the neck with liquid like fluidity. No kinks, bends or dents, snags or pulls. Center panel free from dents, improper bends, crush or collapse. No verdigris. Fold over clasp strong and secure. Silver tone finish intact. The metal is clean and has not been polished, preserving the "softer" patina of the finish. Polishing to a bright shine is left to the discretion of the buyer. Some age commensurate silver tone finish wear to 'G" clasp area. No damage / no repairs. Excellent vintage.
Reverse of center panel is signed within an oval cartouche: "GIVENCHY" with copyright symbol overhead and "PARIS NEW YORK" underscoring signature. Dates circa 1970s -1980s.
Givenchy. Time and time again. Fashion with fortitude. Catch the wave at Cody's.
