Known for her incredible stones and colors, Alice Caviness, circa 1945-1990s, created these wonderful japanned clip earrings with marvelous triplet specialty rhinestones. The high plateau rectangular earrings are fitted with octagon (eight sided) oblong triplets -- three layers of exquisitely beveled, graduated sandwiched glass -- the base layer in black, middle in clear and top in fuchsia. The procedure produces a marvelous array of color depth and dimension. Matte black (japanned) mock dogtooth prong settings further enhance the mystery. Another smashing success by renowned designed Alice Caviness.
The earrings measure about 7/8 inches x 1/2 inch with an astounding 1/2 inch profile or height. Specialty stones are approximately 19 millimeters x 10 millimeters. Weight of the earrings pair is about 16 grams.
Condition is excellent vintage. All components original and intact. Glass stones free from chips, nicks, cracks or breaks. Superb sandwiching and color variances in black, clear and fuchsia. There is a mold mark on the ends of each of the black base layers -- inherent in the creative process. Japanned finish intact, fronts and backs. Minimal, age commensurate wear. Earring clips strong and secure. Extremely clean. No damage / no repairs. Excellent vintage.
Each original earring clip is signed: "ALICE CAVINESS". Circa 1970s-1980s.
