Trifari's little angel -- fish that is. Alfred Philippe designed a series of figurals for Trifari in 1953, including an elephant, dog, cat, duck and this angelfish (patent number 169172 issued 3/31/53). He can be seen (with a stone variation) in Julia C. Carroll's "Costume Jewelry 202". Ours comes in gold tone with round, marquise and pear shaped white (milk) glass cabochons and a Persian blue bead eye.
The fish measures approximately 2 1/2 inches x 1 3/4 inches with a 7/16 inch profile or height. Large round center cab is about 17 millimeters. Weight of the pin is approximately 18 grams.
Condition is excellent vintage. All components intact. All lustrous white glass cabs free of chips, nicks, cracks, breaks or stains. All gold tone finish intact and lustrous, front and back. No rubs or peeling to finish. No dents or improper bends to metal components. Pin mechanism strong and secure. Extremely clean. No damage / no repairs. Excellent vintage.
The signature on this brooch is unreadable, possibly from wear or more likely, an improper stamp. You can make out the "T" and "R" within the rectangle cartouche but the remainder is extremely faint. The cartouche was to include "TRIFARI" and "PAT. PEND." and copyright symbol. (Trifari did, on occasion, use the copyright symbol prior to 1955.) The pin is extensively researched and documented in the above mentioned reference book, as well as others. We guarantee it to be a Trifari piece. It dates to 1953.
