Scant information is available for the D. A. Hart Company of Attleboro, MA, other than it closed in 1915. The gilded brass pin presented appears to have been made shortly before operations ceased, circa 1910. We see elements of Nouveau with the sweeping volutes, as well as a more Arts & Crafts approach to the positioning, setting and cuts of stones used. Four glass, faux amethyst tapered baguettes, unfoiled and open backed, are deep box bezel set, arranged in an "X" pattern. Curlicues and beading embellish.
The pin measures about 2 5/8 inches x 2 1/8 inch with a 1/4 inch profile or height. Tapered baguettes are approximately 10 millimeters x 6 millimeters. Weight of the brooch is about 22 grams.
Condition is excellent vintage. All components appear original and are intact. Gilt finish remains with appropriate patina and wear. No dents, improper bends, or crush. All glass stones free from chips, nicks, cracks or breaks. Even rich purple color. Original pin shaft and simple C clasp intact and fully functional. Clean. No polish. No damage / no repairs. Excellent vintage.
The C clasp is signed with an "H" inside a heart -- the logo for the D. A. Hart company of Attleboro, MA. The pin dates circa 1910-1915.
