Eisenberg's rich history is well researched and documented -- from it's Originals to it's Ice and beyond the Eisenberg name is synonymous with the best in costume jewelry. Presented is an extremely rare pair of sterling silver, art glass and rhinestone fur clips, circa 1943-1948. Single fur clips were an Eisenberg staple -- pairs an exception to the rule. So...it is with great pleasure we present an extraordinary example of this company's magnificent work. You can see an example of these clips in Sharon G. Schwartz's and Laura Sutton's book "Eisenberg Originals".
The clips are designed in signature Eisenberg style -- classic, romantic bows and ribbons with sprays of round and oval, finely faceted art glass stones (unfoiled and open back set) as well as pave and accent rhinestones set throughout. Sterling settings are substantial and weighty with sharp double pronged clips with guards at backs. Today, of course, fur clips can be used for myriad purposes so let your imagination run wild.
Each clip measures approximately 2 1/4 inches x 1 5/8 inches at it's widest with a 7/16 inch profile or thickness. Largest oval art glass stones are approximately 12 millimeters x 10 millimeters. Weight of the fur clip pair is a hefty 54 grams.
Condition is excellent vintage. All components intact. All art glass stones free from chips, nicks, cracks or breaks. All rhinestones intact and sparkly. Please keep in mind that these are vintage pieces and they will not appear brand new. There may be a rhinestone here and there that has dimmed slightly -- a common occurrence in cup set stones in pieces of this vintage. Sterling settings free from dents or improper bends. All soldering secure. Fur clips work as intended with strong snap shut closures. Prongs may have very slight bends from on / off use not affecting function. Clips are clean but have not been polished, retaining wonderful warm sterling patina. No damage / no repairs. Excellent vintage condition.
Both clips are fully marked. Body reverses with: "Eisenberg". Body reverses -- near top of clips -- one under a bow swirl and one on a bow ribbon: "STERLING". On each clip mechanism: "STERLING". One reverse is also stamped with "2" -- the stone setter's mark. The clips date circa 1943-1948.
