Schiaparelli's famous watermelon tourmaline rhinestones are showcased in her '50s-'60s vintage ruffle brooch. Alternating emerald green and watermelon tourmaline (sometimes referred to as vitrail) marquise rhinestones punctuate the openwork undulating brass tone border. At center, resting within it's fancy dog toothed pronged setting, a headlight watermelon tourmaline rhinestone glows with pink and green hues. Color casts and coordination are phenomenal. Schiaparelli knows her stones and it shows in our featured brooch.
The brooch measures about 2 1/4 inches across with a 1/2 inch profile or height. Round brilliant headlight rhinestones is approximately 22 millimeters. Marquises are about 15 millimeters x 7 millimeters. Weight of the brooch is approximately 36 grams.
Condition is excellent vintage. All rhinestones free from scratches, chips, nicks, cracks or breaks. All retain color and brilliance. Superb watermelon effect, magnified in the magnificent center stone. All brass tone finish intact, front and back. No dents or improper bends. All soldering secure. Pin shaft has slight bend not affecting function. Locking mechanism secure. Extremely clean. No damage / no repairs. Excellent vintage.
Reverse of brooch is signed in familiar script: "Schiaparelli". It dates circa 1950s-1960s.
