Hobe remained a family run company from about 1927 -1995. It supplied jewels for the famous Ziegfeld Follies as well as numerous movie and television presentation. Of special interest are it's "Sterling Years", circa 1940s, when the company produced intricate and elaborate designs in silver or gold plated / washed silver. Bows were a favorite theme, often with sprays or bouquets of flowers jutting out. Some were embellished with colorful simulated stones.
The sterling silver brooch featured, circa 1940s, exemplifies the classic bow design with large fancy loops and swooshed knot cradling a bouquet of flowers. It measures approximately 2 3/4 inches x 2 1/4 inches with a maximum 13/16 inch profile or height. Weight of the brooch is about 24 grams.
Condition is very good to excellent vintage. All components intact. All soldering secure. Bow retains loops, curls and furls with no crush or collapse. We believe the bow's loops are the original forms. Slight manipulation over the years is possible. Flower spray remains aligned and secure. As most buyers prefer, no polishing has been done. All patina / tarnish is intact. A polishing cloth can produce a bright, shiny finish, if you so choose. Pin mechanism strong and secure. No damage / no repairs. Commensurate age wear and use. Very good to excellent vintage.
Reverse of the brooch is signed within a triangular cartouche: "Hobe' STERLING". It dates early to mid 1940s.
