Known for it's beautiful mesh handbags Whiting & Davis also produced quality costume jewelry. Advertising and references suggest the company began producing jewelry around the 1930s until circa 1991. Especially known for it's glass cameos and intaglios, the company's art glass stone and cabochon pieces are highly regarded, as well. The brooch and clip earrings set featured, circa 1960s, showcases wonderful, rainbow striped glass high domed cabs. bezel set in gold tone metal. Various tones of red, blue, green pink and yellow are swirled / infused in stripe like patterns throughout the glass.
The brooch measures about 1 3/4 inches x 1 1/4 inches with a 9/16 inch profile or dome. Glass cab in a generous approximate 32 millimeters x 17 millimeters. Matching clip earrings are about 7/8 inch x 1/2 with a 3/8 inch dome. Earring cabs are approximately 18 millimeters x 10 millimeters. Weight of the pin and earrings demi is about 22 grams.
Condition is excellent vintage. All components original and intact. All glass cabs free from chips, nicks, cracks or breaks. No scuffs, scratches, rubs or abrasions. (Please note that colors may not in person as pictured since monitors register color differently.) All settings secure. No dents or improper bends. Gold tone finish intact, fronts and backs. Pin mechanism and earring clips strong and secure. Extremely clean. No damage / no repairs. Excellent vintage.
Each original earring clip is signed: "WHITING & DAVIS CO." The brooch is not signed but is a definite part of this demi. The set dates circa 1960s.
