Aurora borealis rhinestones were created mid century (circa 1955). The stones were an immediate sensation and success. Costume jewelry companies seized the moment, utilizing this new process to enhance color, sparkle, and of course, sales. The aurora borealis rhinestone became the new standard of excellence. It remains popular to this day.
