Although scant information exists on Regency's maker, the Regina Novelty Company of New York City, it appear to have been in business from the '50s to the '70s. Known for it's top notch designs, premium quality stones and construction in such coveted works as it's spectacular butterfly pins, Regency's pieces can be mistaken as Schreiner, Juliana and higher end Weiss. It shines, however, on it's own merit -- wowing as much today as when created.
The necklace presented, circa 1960s, features an arresting array of chaton, large round brilliant and marquise rhinestones in cool aqua marine, Montana blue, and blue aurora borealis. In signature Regency style, stones are set on a horizontal slant along sides with a vertically set, inverted chevron center. Bilateral rhinestone chains connect via rhinestone set hook closure. Color choices / combinations and placement are typical Regency fare. In a word...fantastic. A note about color: We have taken photos of the necklace in different lighting conditions, yielding slightly varying color shades. Please consider that our color assessment is subjective. You and/or your monitor may analyze color differently.
The necklace is adjustable to about 16 1/2 inches. Decorative center spans approximately 7 1/4 inches x 1 1/4 inches at it's widest point. Large marquises are about 15 millimeters x 7 millimeters; large chatons, about 9 millimeters. Weight of the necklace is approximately 42 grams.
Condition is excellent vintage. All rhinestones intact and brilliant. No chips, nicks crack or breaks to stones. Colored stones retain magnificent blue shades. A few of the small bilateral chain chatons have dimmed just a bit from age. Center span stones all have dazzling color and sparkle. All connections secure. No twists or bends. Pewter tone finish intact, front and back. Minimal aging of bilateral chain stones only. Extremely clean. No damage / no repairs. Excellent vintage.
Reverse of necklace is signed within an oval cartouche: "REGENCY" no copyright symbol. It dates circa 1960s.
