Trifari. An American institution for nearly 100 years. From designers to distribution, Trifari reigned supreme. Creating a wide variety of jewelry and price points, Trifari accessorized president's wives, movie stars, celebrities and stay at home moms. Arguably, the number one costume jewelry firm of all time, competing with giants Coro, Kramer and Weiss, Trifari's roster or royalty included the incomparable Alfred Philippe, along with designers Norman Bel Geddes, Andre' Boeuf, Diane Love and Kunio Matsumoto, among many others. Trifari's enjoyed unprecedented successes with it's Fruit Salad, Jelly Belly, Jewels of India, Ming and Moghul lines, in addition to myriad others. It took promotions to new levels, branding it's jewelry and presenting it in leading magazine print ads of the day, vigorously protecting it's copyright and patent designs.
Diamante had always been a mainstay at Trifari. However, in the 1960s a new trend emerged where faux pearls became de rigueur. Trifari's latest new metal finish Trifanium in platinum and gold tone lent itself beautifully to complimenting countless combinations of simulated pearls and rhinestones. Trifari's contribution to the imitation pearl jewelry movement cannot be overstated. It could proudly add the "Princes of Pearls" along side it's "Rhinestone Kings" moniker.
The set presented, in Trifanium gold tone, circa 1960s, includes the articulated link necklace, comprised of two sizes of pearl notes extending at two levels, suspended by alternating ribbed bars, baguette rhinestones and square cut rhinestones. Matching round, clip earrings complete the demi, repeating the two sizes of pearls extending on alternating double ribbed bars and baguette rhinestones, sans square cuts stones. Large faux pearls are added at centers.
The necklace is adjustable to about 16 1/2 inches with charmed extension tail and hook closure. Decorative center spans approximately 13 1/2 inches x 5/8 inch. Earrings are about inch across with a 1/2 inch profile. Simulated pearls range in size from about 5 millimeters - 8 millimeters. Baguettes are approximately 5 millimeters x 2 millimeters. Weight of the necklace and earrings set is about 82 grams.
Condition is excellent / pristine vintage. All components original and intact. All faux pearls intact, retaining nacre and luster. No stains, yellowing, peeling, scratches or damage. All rhinestones intact and sparkly. Trifari's adhesives during this time were extremely durable and long lasting -- they could however, cause some slight dimming over the years so the rhinestones may not be as "white" as when created. All gold tone Trifanium finish intact, fronts and backs. All soldering and connections strong and secure. Extremely clean. Looks rarely, if ever worn. No damage / no repairs. Pristine vintage.
Each original earring clip is signed: "TRIFARI" and copyright symbol. Original necklace hook signed: "TRIFARI" and copyright symbol. The set dates circa 1960s.
