Interlocking polished milk glass bow tie beads set the scene for Miriam Haskell's '70s vintage opera length single strand necklace. Sometimes referred to as the summer or cruise line collection, polished white glass beads were a popular theme for seasonal jewelry. The example presented, features graduated, interlocking white bow tie shaped beads, juxtaposed for incredible dimension. Whether spring, summer, fall or winter -- white works all year.
The necklace is a fixed approximate 29 inches with locking slide clasp. Glass beads range in size from about 9 millimeters x 7 millimeters to 14 millimeters x 12 millimeters. Maximum width is about 9/16 inch. Weight of the necklace is approximately 70 grams.
Condition is excellent vintage. All components original and intact. All glass beads free from chips, nicks, cracks or breaks. No stains or yellowing. All beads interlock properly. Strand appears secure with no slack. Clasp and findings do show some finish loss / patina and age consistent wear. We believe the hardware was originally silver tone that has morphed into a more brass tone. The locking slide (first used by Haskell circa 1975) functions properly and is secure. Extremely clean beads. No damage / no repairs. Excellent vintage.
The necklace is stamped in block print on it's original oval metal hangtag: "MIRIAM HASKELL". The slide clasp is signed in block print: "MIRIAM HASKELL" on one side with the patent number "3,427,891" on reverse. The necklace dates circa 1975-1980.
