ART or MODEART (MODE-ART) was a New York based company owner by Arthur Pepper, operating from about the 1950s-1970s. A large variety of jewelry in a wide range of prices was produced. Comparisons have been made to Florenza and Hollycraft due to use of stone colors and combinations, as well as settings. Christmas jewelry was a specialty of ART and is collectible in it's own right.
The ART brooch presented (circa 1960s) is a burst of colorful rhinestones in high bezel like settings on a finely textured gold tone dome with a roped border. It appear almost crater-like, jutting with glistening aurora borealis chaton rhinestones complimenting jewel tone oval rhinestones in amethyst, emerald, ruby, citrine and topaz. Spectacular dimension, colors and brilliance from ART.
The brooch measures about 2 inches across with a 1/2 inch dome or profile. Rhinestones range from approximately 5 - 8 millimeters. Weight of the brooch is about 32 grams.
Condition is excellent vintage. All components intact. All rhinestones intact, retaining colors and aurora borealis finish on selected stones. No chips, nicks, cracks or breaks to stones. Gold tone finish intact, front and back. Brooch retains domed shape with no dents, improper bends or collapse. All soldering secure. Pin mechanism / lock strong and secure. Extremely clean. No damage / no repairs. Excellent vintage.
The brooch is signed on reverse within a rectangular cartouche: "ART" followed by copyright symbol. Design, materials, colors and construction, in conjunction with the signature date the brooch circa 1960s.
