Fly first class with Coro's 1940s vintage vermeil sterling silver eagle brooch by the company's Sterling Craft division. The bird is huge -- approximately 3 inches x 3 1/4 inches. From wing tip to tail tip, diagonally -- about 4 3/8 inches. Maximum profile is about 1/4 inch. Weight is approximately 20 grams.
Coro's Sterling Craft pieces are fairly easy to date as they were made from about 1942-1944. Inventory was limited, making this Coro mark difficult to find.
The brooch pictured is magnificent in both size and subject matter. Feathering, eye, beak and claw feet details are superb. Body and wing contours, gracefully rendered. Most of the reverse of the brooch has a flat back plate. The front or top wing is arched a bit higher, sans back plate.
Condition is excellent vintage. All components original and intact. All gold wash finish intact, front and back. No rubs or wear to overlay. No dents or improper bends. Pin back strong and secure. No damage / no repairs. Please keep in mind that although in excellent vintage condition the pin was made in the1940s and has been appreciated. It will not appear brand new. That said -- it has obviously been well cared for and will continue to please for years to come.
Reverse of the brooch is signed in an oval configuration: "STERLING CRAFT" and "By Coro". Circa 1940s.
