Carved wood and Lucite pins -- ubiquitous to the 1940s when metals were rationed. Often crafted in the likeness of animals or birds they would sometimes incorporate carving into one or both materials and include painted and / or reverse colored highlights. The swan presented, it's body with carved and reverse carved feather details and black and light yellow painting / shading, features a gracefully upswept, carved wood wing. Wood and Lucite sections and pin mechanism are heat / pin set for strength and stability.
The swan measures approximately 3 1/4 inches x 2 5/8 inches at it's widest with a maximum 1/2 inch thickness. Weight is about 26 grams.
