Produced during the Edwardian period, circa 1915, the oval 800 silver vermeil pin presented is bead set with two sizes of oval and two sizes of round rose cut Bohemian garnets. The gold over silver settings are slightly tiered or layered for a gentle domed dimension. Color, difficult to capture in it's exact shade, is characteristic rich, garnet -- the rose cut stones' (no tables or pavilions) faceting flashing Burmese ruby color from beneath. (The photos are well lit to display facets and details.) Color may appear differently on monitors and in person.
The brooch measures about 1 1/4 inches x 1 inch with a 3/16 inch profile or dome. Largest oval stones are approximately 7 millimeters x 5 millimeters. Center round garnet is about 4 millimeters. Weight of the pin is approximately 6 grams.
Condition is excellent antique. All components intact. All garnets are securely set and free from chips, nicks, cracks or breaks. Beautiful, consistent color. Distinctive, rose cut faceting yields more rich color and less harsh brilliance. Vermeil (gold over silver) intact, front and back with age appropriate patina. No dents, improper bends, or collapse. Pin shaft straight. Locking mechanism strong and secure. Clean. No damage / no repairs.
The brooch's pin shaft is marked ever so slightly "800", indicating a grade of silver frequently used in these types of pins of this vintage. Design, materials, construction and overall presentation indicate the piece was produced sometime in the first quarter of the 20th century, circa 1915.
