Swirls of sterling silver, sharing smooth and chased finishes, intermittently paved with rhinestones, are overlaid with rhinestone fretwork containing panes of square cut red unfoiled and open backed art glass stones. At opposite end, a rhinestone set, chased sterling swirl terminates with a ruby red, high domed or bullet glass cabochon. Art Deco at it's finest -- incorporating fullness and volume with concentrated delineation. Sterling silver, red art glass stones and clear pave rhinestones -- materials of the decade wrapped up into a dramatic Deco design. Authentic '30s vintage.
The brooch measures an impressive, approximate 3 inches x 1 5/8 inches at it's widest with a maximum 5/15 inch profile. Faceted, red glass stones are approximately 6 millimeters; bullet cabochon, about 5 millimeters. Weight of the brooch is approximately 32 grams.
Condition is very good vintage. All components intact. All rhinestones intact and sparkly. There are a few that have characteristic, age commensurate dimming but still offer plenty of brilliance. All red, square cut stones free from chips, nicks, cracks or breaks. They are unfoiled, offering glowing, ruby red color. Red glass bullet cab is also unfoiled and free from damage. Sterling silver has some oxidation / tarnish to the finish. As most buyers prefer, no polishing has been done to retain patina. No dents or improper bends. All riveting / soldering secure. Pin shaft has some oxidation -- mechanism strong and secure. Other than age related wear -- no damage / no repairs. Presents beautifully. Very good vintage.
Reverse of the brooch is stamped: "STERLING". The brooch's design, materials, and construction have an uncanny likeness in to the work of a famous maker killed during WWII. Top quality throughout. Circa 1930s.
