An absolutely breathtaking Eisenberg sterling silver vermeil fur clip, circa 1942-48. Magnificent graduated, cornflower blue, pear shaped Swarovski crystals (unfoiled and open backed) extend on heavy silver rods. At center, atop a leafy silver vermeil drape with rhinestone arch and tendril, a large rounded corner, marine blue pear rests, point down. It's mate complements below, point up. With a nod to the evolving Art Moderne movement, Eisenberg utilizes color and form in a new and deliberate way resulting in a clip beyond compare. Truly, one of the nicest colored stone fur clips we've seen. In pristine vintage condition. An example of this clip with red stones can be seen in Joanne Dubbs Ball's "Costume Jewelers".
The clip measures an impressive, approximate 3 inches x 1 3/4 inches at it's widest point with a maximum 1/2 inch profile. Largest pear shaped crystals are about 18 millimeters x 15 millimeters. Peripheral cornflower blue pears graduate from 9 millimeters x 6 millimeters to 14 millimeters x 11 millimeters. Weight of the sterling clip is approximately 44 grams.
Condition is excellent / pristine vintage. All components original and intact. All "white" rhinestones intact and uniformly clear and extremely brilliant. There are absolutely no dark, yellow, gray, cloudy or dead stones. All original stones sparkle as new. All blue crystals intact with no chips, cracks, nicks, flea bites, cracks or breaks. All have magnificent color. Please note that our color assessments are subjective. Your monitor and/or you may interpret them differently. Sterling silver vermeil intact with age appropriate patina. No polishing or abrasive cleaning has been done. The clip has obviously been well cared for, it's personality intact. Amazing construction with the top piece securely affixed via hook and eye. All stones, save cup and bead set rhinestones, are heavy prong set in deep cradles. All radiating rods retain shape with no improper bends. All soldering neat and secure. Fur clip retains tight hinge and snap shut closure. Prongs straight and sharp with added security / safety guard at bottom. Clean. No damage / no repairs. Pristine / near mint vintage.
Reverse of center section is signed in familiar script: "E" , a mark used by Eisenberg from about 1942-1945 and sometimes later for reasons of space. It is also marked "STERLING" twice -- on the fur clip mechanism and prongs guard.
