Francisco Rebajes aka Frank Rebajes along with Jerry Fels of Renoir / Matisse are two of the most recognized and respected names in copper art jewelry. They began their work on opposite coasts of the United States, Rebajes in New York and Fels in California. Each is remembered for his groundbreaking techniques in creating copper jewelry, sometimes incorporating enamel, aluminum, and silver into the mix. Rebajes is perhaps the more bohemian of the two -- plying his trade from the "ground up", experimenting with the latest artistic movements in characteristic unconventional styles.
Presented is Rebajes' anodized copper leaf and scroll link bracelet and screw back earrings set, circa 1950s. A version of this bracelet can be seen on page 9 in Burkolz and Kaplan's "Copper A Different Lustre". The organic themed seven link bracelet is comprised of six applied, striated leafs with coiled or scrolled stems. The bracelet's copper face is dramatically anodized (shaded) with a silver tone finish reverse. A push in box type clasp secures. Matching screw back earrings complete the demi, each with a complimenting single leaf and scroll motif.
The bracelet measures approximately 6 1/2 inches x 1 inch with a 3/16 inch profile or height. Earrings are about 1 1/16 inch x 3/4 inch x 3/16 inch. Weight of the bracelet and earrings set is approximately 54 grams.
Condition is excellent vintage. All components original and intact. Anodized copper finish intact with age appropriate patina. No polishing has been done. Bracelet retains shape with no dents or improper bends. All links aligned with secure connections. Push in box clasp strong and secure. Bracelet's inside silver tone finish shows some wear, commensurate with age. Earring screw backs strong and secure. All soldering secure. Clean. No damage / no repairs. Please note that the pieces are significantly anodized and have a natural aged patina. They do not have a bright finish. Excellent vintage.
The bracelet is signed topside on it's end link in signature mixed case block: "REbajEs". Earrings are not signed but are a definite part of the demi. (We also have the matching plaque brooch, listed separately. It's anodized copper finish is brighter.
