Transitioning from Nouveau to Deco, this early 20th century necklace, 1920s-1930s, incorporates characteristics of both. In brass, the cameo style center medallion features the bust of a woman with flowing tresses and aigrette embellished cloche hat. A hint of fabric peaks from her décolletage. Filigree work fans out from the oval and three pear shaped bullets dangle. Engraved / stamped bilateral chains connect via spring ring closure while swags drape from each side. Much of the work suggests Nouveau design, though the necklace could date to the 1930s.
It measures a fixed approximate 15 1/2 inches with spring ring closure. The medallion center is approximately 2 1/2 inches at it's widest point x 3 inches long, including dangles. Thickness or profile is about 3/8 inch. Weight of the necklace is approximately 36 grams.
Condition is excellent vintage. All components appear original and are intact. No apparent reworking. Links, jump rings, closure, medallion and dangles are of age appropriate materials and have consistent patina, commensurate with age. Expected wear to high / contact points with typical surface imperfections. No verdigris. All shapes retained with no dents, improper bends or collapse. Soldering secure. Clasp secure. No damage / no repairs. Excellent vintage.
We have found no markings on the necklace. It's design, components, construction and overall presentation indicate an early 20th century to 1930s vintage.
