Circa 1920s-1930s, probably German, this single strand beauty features a host of beads -- swirled yellow rounds and oblongs, clear seed beads, clear crystal rounds, green turret beads, similar to chrysoprase or peking glass, and faceted black glass rondelles. Wonderful machine age stamped brass "washer" flats act as caps or spacers on selected beads. All components are strung on tightly coiled metal chain and secured via spring ring clasp. Colors, materials, and construction are signature Art Deco -- most likely European / German.
The necklace measures about 15 1/2 inches long. Graduated beads range in size from about 8 millimeters for the yellow oblongs, 13 millimeters for the greens and 14 millimeters for the largest yellow round. Weight of the necklace is approximately 40 grams.
Condition is excellent vintage. All components intact. It is interesting that the necklace's beads are all slightly irregular -- even the "like" beads. They appear to be individually blown / formed or cut. Some of the yellows, particularly the largest, have indentations, cavities or craters, formed during their creation and not a result of damage or age. Yellows also have marvelous swirling / marbling. You may note that although the beads do not match up in exact positions on each "side" of the strand, the necklace remains balanced due to careful planning and execution -- integrated artistic license. Glass beads free from chips, nicks, cracks or breaks. Brass washer spacers have age appropriate patina. No verdigris. Stand appears secure. Spring ring clasp and soldered shut jump ring secure. Clean. No damage / no repair.
The necklace is not signed. It's design, materials, construction and overall presentation lead us to believe it is European -- perhaps German in origin, circa 1920s-1930s.
