Glorious Eisenberg. At 4 1/2 inches long with chaton, marquise and square cut rhinestones covering every available space, Eisenberg spared nothing in it's 1935-1945 vintage fur clip creation. We have not seen a more impressive clip in better condition. It is magnificent. You can see an example of this clip in a Vogue print ad from February 1942 in Sharon G. Schwartz's and Laura Sutton's book "Eisenberg Originals".
The storied Eisenberg legend unfolded in 1914. It initially sold only women's RTW fashions -- later designing and manufacturing it's own line of Eisenberg Originals clothing. Jewelry was used exclusively as an embellishment until it became more desirable than the clothing itself, leading the founder Jonas' son Sam to fill the void. The baubles business proved so successful that in 1958 the company ceased apparel production to concentrate solely on jewelry.
Throughout the years, Eisenberg, Eisenberg Original, Eisenberg Sterling, E, Eisenberg Ice and variations of the name were used to mark it's inventory. From it's early pot metal pieces to it's sterling, enamel and Christmas jewelry, Eisenberg has reveled in it's niche. Quality has always been foremost with an emphasis on obtaining the best stones available from Swarovski and others. It's jewelry continues to be a worldwide favorite with collectors and aficionados.
The fur clip offered, circa 1935-1945, in signature silver toned period pot metal, features a vast array of stones. Eisenberg's famous ribbon stones (smaller pave set chatons) grace the slashes throughout. Variously sized marquises outline and trail while square cuts form the "question". At center a large dentelle faceted chaton rhinestone crowns. Melding creative design, premium materials and expert craftsmanship into one show stopping piece is an Eisenberg forte, exemplified here in it's magnificent fur clip.
It measures a massive, approximate 4 1/2 inches long x 2 1/4 inches at it's widest point with a maximum 1/2 inch profile. The large center dentelle chaton is about 14 millimeters. Marquises range in size from about 7 x 4 millimeters to 15 x 7 millimeters. Square cut rhinestones are approximately 4 millimeters. Weight of the clip is a hefty 74 grams.
Condition is excellent vintage. All components original and intact. All stones appear original and are intact. We have noticed no chips, nicks, cracks or breaks. Stones remain clear and brilliant. No dark, yellow, cloudy or dead stones. Amazing "white" sparkle after 70-80 years of appreciation. Please keep in mind, of course, that the clip is vintage and does exhibit appropriate age. All pot metal retains shape and form. No dents or improper bends. All soldering secure. Fur clip mechanism strong and secure. One of the prongs has a slight bend to it but remains sharp and strong with no functional compromise. Extremely clean. No damage / no repairs. Excellent vintage. Near pristine for a piece this age.
The clip is signed on it's reverse with: "Eisenberg ORIGINAL". It also includes the number "4" within a circle -- the stone setter's identification mark.
