From it's bold, scooped volute style ribbons, to strategic rhinestone placement, and dual tone finishes, this asymmetrically balanced bow, choker / collar style necklace is the epitome of Art Moderne design. Tiring of hard edged Deco geometrics and angles, 1940's designers sought out more exuberant scrolls, volutes, and columns. All sorts of utilitarian pieces were incorporated into jewelry, as well -- gas pipes, coils, gears, ball bearings, chains and even tank tracks. It was all a part of the marvelous new Utility Modern look. Screen stars previewed the style and the rest of the world took notice.
The bow necklace offered measures a fixed approximate 13 3/4 inches with bilateral cable chains secured with a fold over clasp. Lustrous gold tone centerpiece, with silver tone rhinestone bridge and dangle, is about 2 inches x 2 inches. Rhinestones range in size from approximately 1 to 3 millimeters. Weight of the necklace is about 30 grams.
Condition is excellent vintage. All components intact. All rhinestones intact and uniformly clear and brilliant. No dark, yellow cloudy or dead stones. All gold tone and silver tone finishes intact, front and back. Bilateral chains free from kinks or bends. Fold over clasp secure. Minor wear consistent with age. Extremely clean.
