The Hobe' family, long associated with stage, as well as films, created some of their most memorable pieces during the "sterling era", circa 1941-1947. The sterling brooch offered hails from this era with it's signature billowing bow adorned with floral and foliage details, it's center embellished with a large dentelle faceted peridot colored glass chaton.
The brooch measures a generous approximate 2 3/4 inches x 2 1/4 inches with a 1/2 inch profile. Center green chaton is about 11 millimeters. Weight of the brooch is approximately 32 grams.
Condition is excellent -- patina, exemplary. All components original and intact. There are no dents or improper bends to sterling. Original center faux gemstone free from chips, nicks cracks or breaks with secure, precise bezel setting. All soldering secure. As preferred by most buyers, no polishing or abrasive cleaning has been done, maintaining the brooch's fine patina. Pin shaft has typical slight bend. Locking wheel functions as designed. No damage / no repairs. Excellent vintage.
Reverse of brooch is signed within a triangle: "Hobe' STERLING", a mark in use from about 1933-1957. Design, materials, construction, overall presentation and references, in conjunction with mark, date this brooch from the early to mid '40s.
