Robert Levey (Levy), formerly a designer with Miriam Haskell, created Fashioncraft Jewelry Company with two other businessmen in New York City in 1942. It's name was changed to Robert Originals Inc. in 1960. "Robert" and "Original by Robert" are two of the most recognizable names used to mark the jewelry.
The earrings pictured date to circa 1950s-1960s. With wonderful twisted orange and avocado strands wound around each other and wired "Haskellesque" style to gold tone double filigree backs, the earrings' beads have a marvelous iridescent color and subtle sparkle that give them that extra panache. Clusters are full and thick, lending dimension to the crescent shaped clip earrings.
The earrings measure about 1 1/2 inches x 5/8 inch with a 1/2 inch profile. Weight of the earrings pair is approximately 20 grams.
Condition is excellent vintage. All components original and intact. All beads intact, retaining great color and iridescent quality. Strands secure and wiring secure. Gold tone finish intact, with age appropriate patina on reverses. Clips show some minor wear. Plastic comfort inserts have been removed, cleaned and reinserted. All soldering secure. Earring clips strong and secure. Clean. No damage / no repairs.
Each original earring clip is signed in familiar cursive script: "Robert". Design, style, colors, materials and construction, in conjunction with the mark date these earrings to the 1950s-1960s.
Bead dazzled in an original by Robert. Seed it at Cody's.
