Kenneth Jay Lane's New York Collection was created for Avon in 1991 and is featured in Sandra Sturdivant's book "Identifying Avon Jewelry". The necklace incorporates large, creamy faux pearls interspersed with ribbed gold tone rondelles, sandwiching faux onyx rondelles. A layered, ribbed medallion anchors, set with clear rhinestones and a faceted faux onyx oval. In Lane's signature style, the components used complement and coordinate perfectly. Costume jewelry on it's own terms, in it's own right.
The necklace is a fixed approximate 20 inch matinee length with spring ring closure. The pendant or medallion portion is about 1 3/4 inches x 1 3/8 inches with a 1/4 inch profile. Pearls are approximately 10 millimeters. Weight of the necklace is about 70 grams.
Condition is excellent vintage. All components original and intact. All faux pearls retain nacre and luster. No chips, cracks, nicks, or discoloration. All gold tone finish intact, front and back. No wear through, rubs or tarnish. All faux onyx pieces remain lustrous. All rhinestones intact and brilliant with no dark, cloudy, yellow or dead stones. Bilateral strands appear secure with proper tension. Clasp strong and secure. Extremely clean. No damage / no repairs. Near pristine vintage.
Reverse of medallion is signed within an oval cartouche: "K.J.L. for AVON". The necklace dates to 1991.
