Five, big, plump berries or clusters in mid century Schiaparelli substance and style are linked in this fantastic silver tone necklace, circa 1950s-1960s. Each domed berry or bunch (strawberry or grape cluster, it would seem) is composed of six shaped, creased bars topped with a trio of finely textured leaves and a jaunty stem. Heavy, bilateral link chains secure via hook style closure. One can see Schiaparelli's nod to the surreal with the exaggerated composition, shape and scale of the subject matter. An object should look interesting and intriguing, not necessarily real. It's what makes Schiaparelli's designs so relevant and "right on" with collectors and aficionados of her work.
The necklace is adjustable to about 18 1/2 inches with charmed end and hook closure. Berry section spans approximately 7 inches x 1 inch with a 7/16 inch profile or dome. Weight of the necklace is about 80 substantial grams.
Condition is excellent vintage. All components intact. All silver tone finish intact, front and back. No wear through, rubs, stains or verdigris. No dents, collapse or improper bends. All links secure. All chain linkage secure. Extremely clean. No damage / no repairs. Near pristine vintage.
Reverse of center link is signed within an oblong cartouche in familiar script: "Schiaparelli". Design, materials, construction, theme and overall presentation, in conjunction with signature date the necklace to 1950s-'60s.
