Circa 1910, this marvelous gilt brass sash pin with flowering thistle motif, along with various flourishes and volutes, is bezel set with an oval high domed green faux chrysoprase stone at center. Used to adorn sashes and bows in the day, the brooch can be adapted to embellish whatever your imagination can fathom. The gilt brass has a mellow patina, with age appropriate highlights and darker areas. With remnants of Victorian influence and Art Nouveau on the horizon, the Edwardian period captured a glimpse of each.
The sash pin measures about 3 inches x 2 1/2 inches with a maximum profile of 1/2 inch. The center light green mottled stone is approximately 20 millimeters x 9 millimeters. Weight of the brooch is about 44 grams.
Condition is excellent antique. All component intact. Gilt brass has some age commensurate wear and wonderful time acquired patina. No polishing or abrasive cleaning has been done. Center stone is free from chips, nicks, cracks or breaks. Appears firmly set. No dents or improper bends to metal. Pin shaft straight and strong. Clasp is simple "C" type with no lock and remains functional. No damage / no repairs. Excellent antique.
As expected, not signed. Design, style, materials, construction and overall presentation date this sash pin to the early 1900s.
