An aerodynamic, architectural Art Deco aphid. Streamlined to a tee with "ready for takeoff" thrust. Our buggy fly by night insect brooch embodies the era's mania for all things modern. With his large brass bead eyes, curved antennae, swept back, ridged wings and phenomenal hexagonal coffin / casket shaped blue art glass body, he's a disciple of Deco design -- the epitome of it's fascination with flight and fantasy.
The brooch measures about 2 1/8 inches x 1 7/8 inch with a 1/4 inch profile. The blue casket stone is approximately 25 millimeters x 15 millimeters. The blue chaton rhinestone is about 5 millimeters. Weight of the brooch is approximately 16 grams.
Condition is excellent vintage. All components original and intact. Brass metal retains age acquired patina. No polishing or abrasive cleaning has been done. No dents or improper bends. Blue chaton rhinestone retains color and sparkle. Unfoiled and open back set coffin stone free from chips, nicks, flea bites, cracks or breaks with gorgeous blue color. Pin shaft has slight bend -- functions perfectly with secure locking wheel. Clean. No damage / no repairs.
The brooch is not signed. Many of it's elements lead us to believe it may be Czechoslovakian made. Definitely from the Art Deco period -- circa 1930s. One of the best examples of the movement's foray into insect design.
