Mythological motifs are embodied in this 1930's vintage Art Deco era combination pin / pendant in stamped brass and molded peking glass. A griffin at each side flanks a pagoda at center of the stamped brass framework. The bezel set, pear shaped, molded green peking glass insert boasts floral and fauna details, a butterfly and flying creature. The brooch's hinged loop at top facilitates use as a pendant. An excellent example of the brass and glass jewelry of the '20s and '30s.
The brooch / pendant measures about 2 1/4 inches x 1 3/4 inches at it's widest point with a 1/4 inch thickness. The peking glass insert is approximately 33 millimeters x 23 millimeters. Weight of the piece is about 12 grams.
Condition is very good / excellent vintage . Peking glass is free from chips, nicks, cracks or breaks. No stains or discoloration. The lightweight, brass framework has a matte finish patina that includes a few darker age spots, notable at griffins' heads and pagoda. No verdigris. At one time the piece may have had a gilt finish, as evidenced by some remaining gilt on reverse. No polishing or abrasive cleaning has been done. No dents or improper bends to metal work. Hinged pendant loop swings up for use or down to conceal. Pin and locking mechanism functional. No damage / no repairs.
The pin / pendant is not signed. Much jewelry of this type during this time frame was produced in Czechoslovakia. It's 1920's -'30's stampings and molded glass insert are quintessential motifs and materials valued by collectors and aficionados.
