Buffed and beautiful in black. The '30s-'40s vintage large, rectangular, beveled Bakelite frame features a raised oval supporting a matte black cameo of a young woman, complete with coiffed hair, facial features and garment drapes in the finest detail. A carry over, some would say, of the Victorian mourning jewelry, the lustrous jet black brooch can be worn for nearly any occasion. So...put on your happy face and enjoy Bakelite "comfort jewelry".
The brooch measures an impressive, approximate 2 3/4 inches x 2 1/4 inches with a 1/2 inch profile or height. The oval portion is about 1 1/2 inches x 1 1/8 inches. Weight of the brooch is approximately 42 grams.
Condition is excellent vintage. All components original and intact. There may be a tiny scratch here and there from it's many years of use but is in quite remarkable shape. Cameo features fine, sharp details in the less seen "fresher" subject. No nicks, cracks, gouges, or breaks. Frame portions have incredible high sheen / gloss. Reverse features the appropriate, strong and secure embedded pin mechanism seen in authentic vintage Bakelite brooches.
The brooch tested positive as Bakelite via the "409" method and is guaranteed as such. As expected it is not signed.
