D & E excelled at creating bold, colorful rhinestone and art glass combinations during the golden age of rhinestones, circa 1950s-1960s. Pictured is a documented example (Ann Pitman's "Juliana Jewelry Reference Guide") in a stylized floral and foliage motif. Finely striated silver tone lily pad leaves are dotted with large oval marine blue rhinestones, marquise rhinestones and a single round in emerald, molded glass marquises in blue and, two ovals in the always delicious watermelon. Chatons in aurora borealis highlight. Stones are set a different levels for superb dimension. All are glass, some unfoiled and open backed. Quality, as expected with DeLizza & Elster is top notch.
The brooch measures a generous approximate 2 5/8 inches x 2 inches with a 3/8 inch profile. Oval stones are approximately 16 millimeters x 12 millimeters. Weight of the brooch is about 32 grams.
Condition is excellent vintage. All components intact. All rhinestones intact and brilliant with great color retention. Watermelon ovals have wonderful color displacement with pink, gold, fuchsia, and blue hues. No chips, nicks, cracks or breaks to any stones. All soldering secure. All silver tone finish intact, front and back. Pin back straight, strong and secure. Extremely clean. No damage / no repairs.
Juliana was marked with paper tags. The jewelry itself was not signed. The brooch offered has been referenced in Juliana books, notably in Ann Pitman's guide.
Enjoy the fruits of their labors. D & E. Bursting with brilliance in cool blues, gem greens, and ripe watermelons. In stock at Cody's.
