Renoir / Matisse was at the forefront of the modernist movement in it's copper and copper / enamel jewelry. Design and color choices were paramount to the company's success in the fiercely competitive costume jewelry market. Many of it's innovative creations remain as fresh and fashionable as when created. Renoir / Matisse, along with Rebajes and lesser known Rame' were top producers of copper based vintage jewelry.
The 1950s-'60s vintage set offered, known as the Apple pattern, is a prime example of the modern look of Renoir. Bulbous, heart shaped apples with fluted stems and puffed, pierced leaves clearly indicate that this was the new direction Renoir was plotting. The movement was, of course, a success. Renoir / Matisse remains a favorite with aficionados and collectors alike.
The demi includes the brooch, at approximately 2 1/2 inches x 2 1/4 inches with a 3/16 inch profile and matching clip earrings, at about 1 1/4 inches x 7/8 inch. Weight of the set is approximately 24 grams.
Condition is excellent vintage with minimal abrasions to high points on brooch, consistent with use / age. No issues with earrings. No dents or improper bends. No polishing has been done allowing age appropriate patina. All soldering secure. Pin back straight, strong and secure. Earring clips secure. Other than the few brooch abrasions mentioned, no damage / no repairs.
Reverse of brooch is signed in familiar "Renoir" script with copyright symbol preceding. Each original earring clip is signed: "Renoir" in script with copyright symbol preceding.
