Featured in a 1972 issue of Harper's Bazaar, Trifari's Ming Collection featured a variety of enamels with an Oriental theme. The matched set offered, in white enamel with gold tone accents, includes a brooch representing a costumed dancer and complimenting button style earrings. Variously described as Asian, Native American, or Geisha, the Ming collection seems to indicate a Chinese background. The series was created in the early 1970s and was part of Trifari's immensely popular print ad campaigns.
The brooch is approximately 2 1/4 inches x 2 1/4 inches with a 1/8 inch thickness. Matching clip earrings are about 7/8 inch across with a 1/4 inch dome. Weight of the set is approximately 34 grams.
Condition is excellent / pristine vintage. All components original and intact. All white enamel intact with clean, consistent brightness. No chips, cracks, rubs, stains or discoloration. All shiny gold tone finishes intact, front and back. (Gold is a true bright gold color in real life.) Pin back straight, strong and secure. Earring clips secure. No damage / no repairs. Extremely clean. Pristine.
Each original earring clip signed: "TRIFARI" and copyright symbol. Reverse of brooch is signed within a rectangular cartouche: "TRIFARI" and copyright symbol. The Harper's Bazaar Trifari ad from 1972 approximates the set's vintage.
The Ming Collection. Another Trifari adventure.
