Large, faceted, unfoiled and open back set art glass hearts in black and citrine dominate this magnificent '50s- '60s vintage long stemmed brooch in gold tone. Marquise art glass leaves in black and topaz accent while olivine chaton rhinestones punctuate. Truly outstanding size, dimension, colors, and composition.
The brooch measures an impressive approximate 3 inches x 2 inches at it's widest point with a 1/2 inch profile. Art glass hearts are about 13 millimeters x 13 millimeters. Weigh of the brooch is approximately 22 grams.
Condition is excellent vintage. All components original and intact. All art glass hearts free from chips, cracks or breaks. All prongs intact. Upon magnification, I see a slight scratch on one and perhaps a flea bite or two on another of the black hearts, commensurate with age and use. Rhinestones retain sparkle. Goldtone finish intact, front and back. Pin back secure. Gorgeous colors. Spectacular presentation.
I have seen this brooch offered on occasion as a Juliana D & E ( DeLizza & Elster ) piece. It has many of the characteristics of D & E's work, including open backed unusual stones, color combinations, stem work and overall presentation. Although the pin assembly is the bar pin type (not joint and catch), D & E did use the bar pin types on occasions for practicality. I am not positive of this brooch's provenance. You can peruse the photos and use your knowledge to decide. Regardless of the maker, it is a showpiece brooch.
Wear your heart on your sleeve. For the love of vintage. Cody's. The thrill of the hunt is alive and well.
