Miriam Haskell, circa 1960s. A striking combination of Russian gold tone chain work mixed with flat black glass beads and a large three sided beveled plastic slab pendant and matching glass bead earrings. Beginning at the top of the necklace a filigree push in box clasp facilitates closure. A black glass bead is wired at top surrounded with faceted goldtone metal beads. Bilateral double linked chains in Russian goldtone are interspersed with a trio of black flat glass beads at each side. Suspended at chain's bottom, an engraved bail is looped with a finely textured metal melon bead. Three large, thick black plastic slabs are wired together, prism or triangular style. Tops and bottoms of each slab are beveled. The Russian goldtone chains are ingeniously draped through the wiring to fill in / accent the corners of slabs. Tasseled chain fringe completes the pendant. Matching tension control clip earrings have the center black glass bead wired to a back filigree plate. The bead is framed with complementary chain work.
The necklace is a fixed approximate 24 inches. The pendant including the bail and tassel add an additional 4 1/4 inches for a total length of about 28 1/4 inches. Each of the black slabs is approximately 3/4 inch x 1 1/2 inches. Weight of the set is approximately 82 grams.
Condition of the necklace is excellent vintage. All components intact. Glass beads free from chips, nicks, cracks or breaks. Goldtone finishes intact. Some appropriate goldtone wear on reverse of clasp. All wiring appears secure with no loose or broken wiring. No verdigris. Black plastic slabs intact. The finish is not perfect on the black plastic components of the pendant. There may be some very minor scuffs and rubs that are not apparent in photos. In our opinion, beauty and value are not affected. Earring clips strong and secure. Wiring secure. No damage / no repairs.
The necklace is signed on the reverse of the original clasp "Miriam Haskell" within an oval cartouche. Each original earring clip is signed "HASKELL". Reverse of each earring body is also signed within a raised central disk with "MIRIAM HASKELL". The patent number "3176475" is also stamped on the lobe contact screw portion of each earring, helping date these earrings to circa 1960s.
