You may have seen vintage filigree brass pins with a painted porcelain plaque. What we're offering is something quite different. The fun begins with a brass filigree shield and round porcelain plaque painted with a romantic couple. Suspended are three rectangular filigree medallions enameled with decorative white flourishes. A fourth hexagonal filigree plate completes the quartet. It is enhanced with a painted plaque of a second pair of romantic figures. Suspended at the sides of the string of medallions are embossed link chains culminating in brass filigree balls. Far from your garden variety brass and porcelain pins!
The brooch measures an astonishing approximate 4 1/2 inches long. It is about 2 1/4 inches at it's widest point. Porcelain plaques are approximately 15 millimeters. Filigree balls have an approximate 2 inch circumference. Weight of the brooch is about 26 grams.
Condition is excellent vintage. All components correct and intact. Plaques free from chips, nicks, cracks or breaks. Paint remains complete and vibrant. There is a dark area at the bottom of the dangling plaque. It may have been intended or inherent in the plaque making process. I have left as discovered. Enameling intact. Some slight enamel thinning on bottom white decoration. Brass displays appropriate patina. No polishing or abrasive cleaning has been done. No dents or improper bends to brass filigree work. Pin back secure. No damage / no repairs.
Although the brooch is not signed or marked, it appears to be of good quality with nice brass filigree work, classic painted plaques and creamy enamel work. Far from diminutive, the brooch gives us ample opportunity to appreciate all three.
