Presented in 2002 by the late Ian St. Gielar to the author of a recently published jewelry book, the Grand Baroness necklace is unique in the truest sense of the word -- a one of kind masterpiece by St. Gielar, who along with Stanley Hagler and Mark Mercy formed the triumvirate of the Hagler empire. Recently acquired by Cody's Vintage Jewelry, we are proud to offer you a rare opportunity to possess the one -- the only Grand Blue Baroness.
The necklace drapes across the entire bodice / breast with five strands of glass baroque faux pearls interspersed with Persian turquoise blue glass seed beads. The large central plaque is encrusted with large glass faux turquoise and faux pearl cabochons. Crystal rose montees and faceted rhinestones accent throughout. Round robins egg blue beads and rhinestone topped saucer beads fill in the blanks. The plaque is centered with exquisite molded glass petals and hand wrapped seed beads, accented with a crystal / rhinestone rosette. The plaque is suspended with a seed bead wrapped bail showcasing the incredible floral and foliage molded glass pendant. Every component of the incredible necklace is incorporated into it's presentation. The reverse has the beautifully filigreed backplate, another signature of the Hagler "finishing school". It is one of the finest examples of St. Gielar's expertise in manipulating designs. The Grand Baroness is more than a statement, it's a story.
The necklace's top strand is adjustable to about 22 inches with hook style closure and faux pearl tailed extension chain. The strands are attached to scrolled goldtone end bars. The longest bilateral faux pearl strand is about 19 inches -- for a total bottom drape of approximately 38 inches -- thus called "Grand Baroness". The plaque measures diagonally at about 4 inches x 4 inches. The pendant with bail drops an additional 2 1/2 inches and is 1 1/2 inches at it's widest point. The glass pearls are approximately 6-7 millimeters. The faux turquoise cabs are about 22 millimeters x 13 millimeters. The necklace weighs in at over 400 grams.
Condition is pristine -- near mint. All components appear original and are intact. All molded glass components free from chips, nicks, cracks or breaks. All rhinestones uniformly clear and brilliant. No dark, cloudy or dead stones. Faux pearls retain nacre and luster. All beads intact. Wiring appears secure. Stands appear secure. Age consistent patina on some goldtone components, not affecting beauty of value. No damage / no repairs.
A note on this necklace. It is for the adventurous spirit -- a presentation piece that will be the center of attention at any event. It will begin and perhaps end the conversation. What happens in between is up to you!
The neckpiece is signed on the reverse of it's plaque within an oval cartouche: "IAN St. GIELAR". Circa 1980s-1990s.
The Grand Baroness. The power and the glory.
