Countess Zoltowska. Her name is associated with European royalty, counts and couturiers. Certainly her "CIS" jewelry, complete with the crown logo, reminds all of us that these weren't just jewels for the masses, but rather for those with say...more eclectic and perhaps even eccentric tastes. But of course, we who love vintage fashion jewelry, are always looking for these rare and unique pieces -- exuberant, exciting, enchanting extravaganzas.
Such is the case for the glorious brooch pictured. It is a spectacular large domed pin in a pewter tone finish with cupped claw set stones on long metal stems (trademark settings for much "CIS" jewelry). Chaton and large pear shaped stones are in jewel tone sapphire and emerald colors -- some stones clear and some crackled. (Crackled stones are another Countess specialty). Outstanding colors and treatments feature prominently in Zoltowska's jewelry.
The brooch is very large at approximately 2 1/2 inches x 2 1/4 inches with an incredible 1 1/8 inch dome. Pear shaped rhinestones are about 19 millimeters x 13 millimeters; largest chatons, about 9 millimeters. Weight of the brooch is approximately 50 grams.
Condition is excellent vintage. All components original and intact. All stones retain amazing color and treatments. Brilliance and crackling are outstanding. Pewter tone finish has a wonderful patina. Trombone style clasp strong and secure. Extremely clean. No damage / no repairs. Excellent vintage.
The brooch is signed on the reverse of the pin's bar back: "CIS" with a crown over the "I". It is guaranteed to be an authentic signed "CIS" piece.
