To us color combinations speak volumes about the talents of those responsible for selection and assemblage. Hattie Carnegie has pulled out all the stops in the 1950s-1960s golden plume brooch presented. The oval watermelon rhinestone pulls in the surrounding colors of purple, pink, green and hints of blue in the peripheral marquise and chaton rhinestones. Even the method of setting is crucial to the overall benefits of the stones. Here, stones are strategically arranged and set at different angles and levels to showcase their beauty and pull you up to the centerpiece -- the wondrous watermelon. A magnificent kaleidoscope of color.
The brooch measures a generous approximate 2 3/4 inches x 2 inches at it's widest point with a 1/2 inch profile or dome. Oval watermelon stone is about 18 millimeter x 13 millimeters; largest marquises, 15 millimeters x 7 millimeters and largest chatons, 9 millimeters. Weight of the brooch is 26.6 grams.
