Wonderful Venetian wedding cake beads are the star attraction in Hobés' mid century pendant / dangle necklace. Bilateral strands incorporate white wedding glass beads frosted with gold fluss and dotted with pink and blue splotches and peaks. Pairs of faceted round white plastic beads intersperse. Beads are beautifully filigree capped in brass tone metal. Aurora borealis rhinestone rondelles add sparkle. The pendant portion consists of a wired circle of the filigree capped white faceted plastic beads and ab rhinestone rondelles. At center a brass pierced and looped template dangles with wedding cake beads, white faceted and smooth plastic beads, faceted / frosted pink cube beads and ab rhinestone rondelles.
In typical Hobé style, pendant bead strands are hung in varying lengths and in asymmetrical fashion and look best, we think, when worn overlapping the bead circle.
The necklace is adjustable from about 22 inches to 25 inches; best positioned at 22-23 inches. The necklace has a bead charmed extension chain (looks great dangling down the back) with hook closure. Pendant circle is about 2 1/8 inches across with longest portion dangling to approximately 2 5/8 inches. Wedding cake beads are about 15 millimeters; larger faceted white plastic beads, 13 millimeters and frosted pink cube beads, 8 millimeters. Weight of the necklace is 90 grams.
Condition is excellent vintage. Wedding cake and pink glass beads free from chips, nicks, cracks or breaks. Wedding cake beads retain all frosting and color. All rhinestones present and sparkling in rondelles. Plastic beads retain even white color -- no stains or grime. Metal caps, findings, and connections have an age appropriate brass tone patina. No polishing done. Extension end chain has more of a gold tone finish. Original hook shows some finish wear. Clean. No damage / no repairs. Excellent vintage.
The necklace is not signed. We know this necklace is by Hobé from it's design, components, construction and overall presentation. We have also seen the matching Hobé signed earrings. (Hobé often did not sign certain types of necklaces, especially if they were offered with matching earrings, brooches, bracelets, etc.)
Circa 1950s-1960s.
