In the first quarter or so of the 20th century much early costume jewelry was produced in Czechoslovakia. It's distinctive style of stamped gilt brass metal work with applied rosettes, floral and foliage decoration and use of high quality glass stones ushered in a new era of adornment affordable to all. As with the example presented, jewelry was often unsigned.
The 1920s-1930s vintage dress clip offered features blossom and leaf details with three raised rosettes -- their petals enveloping dark blue glass beads. Top of clip focuses on a glass faux lapis cabochon, complete with variegation. Leafy fronds umbrella.
The clip measures approximately 2 inches across with a maximum 5/16 inch profile or height. Cabochon is about 15 millimeters; beads, 6 millimeters. Weight of the clip is 22.5 grams.
Condition is very good vintage. All components original and intact. Cab and beads free from chips. nicks, cracks or breaks. All secure within settings. No dents or improper bends to metal components. Some gilt, as often seen in jewelry of this vintage has worn off, revealing a darker patina. It does not have a uniform bright gold surface. No polishing done. Clip mechanism strong and and secure with tight snap shut closure. Clean. No damage / no repairs. Very good vintage.
The clip is not signed. Design, materials and construction typical of early Czech work. Circa 1920s-1930s.
