Ledo's designs exude an elegantly classic look as exemplified in the brooch presented. Strong belle époque influences of billowing pave rhinestone bow and ribbons enveloping lustrous simulated pearls evoke an era of the neoclassic style popular during the early 1900s. Ledo, a trademark used from circa 1948-1963 was a division of the Ralph Polcini company formed in 1911. The Ledo name was changed to Polcini in 1960s but continued to be used into 1963. Examples are rare.
The brooch measures approximately 2 inches x 1 1/2 inches at it's widest point with a maximum 7/16 inch profile or height. Imitation pearls are 4, 5 and 6 millimeters; pave accent rhinestones, 2 millimeters. Weight of the brooch is 14.8 grams.
Condition is near pristine vintage. All components original and intact. All rhinestones intact and uniformly clear and brilliant. No dark, cloudy, yellow or dead stones. (Camera flash may render some stones gray in images but all stones are clean and crisp.) All faux pearls retain nacre and luster. Consistent white sheen. No dents or improper bends to metal components. All silver tone finish intact, front and back. Pin mechanism strong and secure. Extremely clean. No damage / no repairs. Excellent / near pristine vintage.
Reverse of the brooch is signed in familiar script: "Ledo". Circa early 1960s.
