Art Moderne, sometimes referred to as cocktail style, emerged in the late '30s and morphed into the more streamlined mid century movement in the early 1950s. We love the generosity of the '40s era. Lush, bold and bulbous, pieces often incorporated substantial metal settings accented with larger, albeit fewer, art glass and/or rhinestones. Hollywood loved the look as it translated to film beautifully, accenting the stars' bigger than life images. Though short lived, the movement was an important breath between '30s Deco and "50s mid century modern.
The pin / pendant presented, circa 1940s, features a trio of looped gold tone bands swooping into a boldly feathered collared arrow. A pair of up wired clusters showcase ice blue art glass marquises (unfoiled and open back set) dotted with brilliant clear chaton rhinestones. An additional loop is provided for use as a pendant on your favorite necklace chain.
The pin / pendant measures approximately 2 3/4 inches x 2 inches with a maximum 3/4 inch profile or height. Marquise glass stones are about 15 millimeters x 7 millimeters; largest rhinestones, 4 millimeters. Weight of the pin / pendant is 23.9 grams.
Condition is very good / excellent vintage. All components intact. All art glass stones and rhinestones retain color / sparkle. No off, cloudy or dead stones. Metal settings free from dents or improper bends. Some gold tone loss on trio of bands, revealing a more brass tone. Pin shaft extends slightly from locking wheel and can be a bit temperamental to maneuver but fits and locks securely in place. Clean. No damage. Very good to excellent vintage.
The piece is not signed. It's design, materials and overall presentation indicate a 1940s vintage.
