Weiss selects a single specialty stone to reflect the body of this '50s-'60s vintage duck brooch. Reminiscent of faux green opal, the large cabochon displays embedded lime green foil with dark striations / veining. There are unusual matte brownish black splotches throughout; treatments not often seen in specialty stones. A lustrous oval faux pearl accents head. Shiny open work silver tone wings appear ready for flight. Clawed feet, craning neck and extended beak complete bird's figure.
The brooch measures approximately 2 inches x 1 7/8 inches with a 3/8 inch dome or height. Oval cab is about 25 millimeters x 18 millimeters; simulated pearl, 8 millimeters x 5 millimeters. Weight of the brooch is 15 grams.
Condition is excellent vintage. All component intact. Specialty stone retains colors, shimmer and treatments. Imitation pearl retains all nacre and luster. No dents or improper bends to metal components. All silver tone finish intact, front and back. Pin mechanism strong and secure. Clean. No damage / no repairs. Excellent vintage.
Reverse of the brooch is signed within an oval cartouche: "WEISS". Circa 1950s-1960s.
