Expensive porphyry or striped glass stones were produced in Europe, primarily Germany, Austria and Czechoslovakia. This particular brooch, circa 1960 uses a butterscotch / caramel marbling with fine striations in oval and round prong set glass cabochon stones. They are unfoiled and open back set. On the periphery two sizes of citrine colored chaton rhinestones glitter. Brass roping and braiding form framing and settings. Wonderful color combinations in tandem with porphyry glow and radiant rhinestones.
The brooch measures approximately 1 3/4 inches x 1 inch with a 3/8 inch profile or height. Large center oval stone is 18 millimeters x 13 millimeters; round cabs, 8 millimeters and chaton rhinestones 4 and 5 millimeters. Weight of the brooch is 16.2 grams.
Condition is excellent vintage. All components original and intact. No chips, nicks, cracks or breaks to porphyry glass or rhinestones. Striped cabs retain superb treatment and glow. All rhinestones retain color and brilliance. No dents or improper bends to metal components. All soldering secure. Brass finish has acquired a time commensurate patina. No polishing done. Pin mechanism secure. Clean. No damage / no repairs. Excellent vintage.
The brooch is not signed. We believe it to be of German, Austrian or Czechoslovakian origin. Circa 1960s.
