Joseff of Hollywood's star burns as brightly as any of the Hollywood legends he adorned. This important and influential designer (and later along with his wife Joan Castle Joseff) introduced his jewelry where it would be seen and appreciated most -- in the enchanted world of film. Not only was it donned by Hollywood's elite, on and off camera, but fans clamored for it as well. A line for better department stores was developed and "Jewelry of the Stars" was available to everyone.
The brooch pictured, circa 1940s-50s, in patinated silvertone, is a swirl of variegated curled leaves floating over each other. Two polished berries, one at stem base and one peeking beneath a leaf add personality and punctuation. Beautiful movement and sweep. Fabulous patination -- prevalent on many of Joseff's silvertone as well as goldtone pieces.
The brooch measures a generous approximate 3 1/4 inches x 1 inch at it's widest point. Profile is about 1/4 inch. Weight is approximately 18 grams.
Condition is excellent vintage. Expect the signature Joseff patina. The brooch is not super shiny but displays the more matte or "antiqued" finish. (It does, in fact, appear shinier in the photo than in real life.) It has the high and low lights developed in it's creation, as well as enhanced with age. No improper dents or bends. No verdigris. Pin back secure. Pin shaft may have a few slight bends, typical in vintage brooches. All soldering secure. No damage / no repairs.
The brooch is signed on it's reverse within a round cartouche "Joseff" in familiar script.
