Marcel Boucher in all it's glory. Exuberant rhinestone accented ribbon slashes and swirls envelope a magnificently faceted, Ceylon cut unfoiled and open backed sapphire blue art glass stone. Circa 1942-1947, the heavy silver vermeil (gold over sterling) brooch boasts the best of the elegantly exaggerated Art Moderne style. Boucher mastered the makeover movement with a series of spectacular sterling and stone jewels.
The brooch measures a generous approximate 3 inches x 1 3/4 inches at it's widest point with a maximum 3/8 inch profile or height. Ceylon cut glass stone is about 22 millimeters x 17 millimeters. Weight of the brooch is 32 grams.
Condition is excellent vintage. All component intact. All rhinestones intact and sparkly. Heavy prong set art glass stone free from chips, cracks or breaks. Front vermeil finish intact with some age commensurate wear to high points. Patina intact -- no polishing done. Reverse is in sterling silver color, sans vermeil. Original section joining screws intact and tight. No dents or improper bends to metal components. Pin shaft has slight bend not affecting function. Pin mechanism strong and secure. Clean. No damage / no repairs. Excellent vintage.
Reverse of the brooch is signed with the "MB" Phrygian cap mark. As is common, the mark is a bit cloudy but clearly Marcel Boucher's signage. The brooch is also stamped: "STERLING". Circa 1940s.
